Come along on Saturday morning to our Folk Breakfast. If you can play an instrument so much the better, why not join in? A selection of simple folk tunes are available on the Music page of our website so that you can practice in advance.  There is nothing nicer than to play along with other people so why not have a go! A group of experienced musicians will lead the set and breakfast refreshments will be available. If you want to come along to listen and munch, that's fine with us!

A programme of music charting the life of Francis Poulenc, from his first published work to his final solo piano piece. Poulenc's piano music is interwoven with a performance of "L'Histoire de Babar", with arrangements of some of his other compositions and with music by both older and younger generations of French composers that he clearly admired.

You don’t need to be a skilled artist to produce wonderful results like those pictured. A design is drawn using gutta  and different coloured dyes  are dropped on to the silk, following by a sprinkling of salt to produce a hazy effect. The result is stunning.

You start with a scenario (last time it was a dysfunctional extended family going off on holiday), and in groups you will write a scene. At the end of the session each group presents their piece in whatever style they like. We had mime, 'in the style of', and lots of other hilarious presentation styles. Its fun and amazingly productive. Suitable for older children and adults.

Becky just couldn’t find a suitable tiara to suit here wedding gown so she made her own…and her bridesmaids. It was the start of a hobby, which has become a passion, for making beautiful jewellery and decorative beaded items. Since then, she has designed and made beaded tassels for evening bags and a whole range of necklaces and earrings for both herself and friends. The first workshop is aimed at 4-7-year-olds, whom she will show how to make a memory wire necklace and bracelet. The second will be for youngsters, aged 8-plus, who will be making a tiger tail necklace and bracelet.

Sheila Pennell is an expert in the art.  She has even made a complete miniature tea set out of sugar paste. Some of her creations take weeks to design and make but, under her guidance, she guarantees you will make something exquisite to take home that you will be proud of.

Relax and enjoy a lunchtime drink and a bit of poetry to lift the soul, with village poet Bert Flitcroft.  Bring along a favourite poem, or a poem of your own, and share it with others. Read it yourself or ask someone else to read it – it doesn’t matter.

'The session will start with instruction on how to model simple character or cartoon figures using “Model Magic”. This is a soft, pliable and lightweight compound that air dries to a firm consistency in 24 hours. There will be a variety of colours available, which can be mixed together to create interesting effects, although it can be coloured using most media. For those still wanting to continue there will be chance to sculpt a simple shape/form with Maximesh [that’s a posh name for chicken wire!] and cover it with Mod-Roc. Some of you who have had broken bones set in hospital will know this as the plaster impregnated bandage that is easily cut with scissors. Used artistically this wonderful material can be shaped and moulded, wrapped around wire, stained or coloured with a variety of colouring materials and later varnished. Models made will be hard enough to handle in half an hour and reach full strength overnight. Please note:- if you have a skin problem or a reaction to plaster you can STILL take part in this workshop. Just bring along your “Marigolds”. So – Bring your ideas! Bring an apron! Roll your sleeves up! It will be messy, but that’s what Art is about. Enjoy. I will.' Suitable for all ages.

Members of a local Book Club will run a book-club style session on one of the festival books  – ‘A Year of Wonders’ by Geraldine Brooks.   Read the novel (readily available from bookshops or Amazon) and come down to the pub for an informal discussion. Join in or just sit and listen if you‘d rather. Men and women both welcome. And if you’ve ever wanted to join or set up your own book club, just ask.

Three half hour sessions. Come along and watch a demonstration of bell-ringing in the bell tower at All Saints’ Church and have  a go at ringing a set of handbells. Children should be accompanied

VILLAGE HALL. Drama Shorts. 8:30 to 10:30   (T)An exciting mix of very short plays and performances performed by some familiar and some unfamiliar faces! We have two pieces from Alrewas Dramatic Society, some funny and some poignant monologues, and a fable. We are also delighted to welcome the Alrewas Women's Institute to reprieve their Greek Tragedy and song, and lucky enough to include Comic Relapse from Lichfield who will give us a selection of their work.  You can see them again in Lichfield at the end of the month. Harry Arnold is a well-known waterway photographer, journalist, editor and author who has lived in Alrewas since 1969 and operated his Waterway Images business from here for most of that time. The Waterway Images library is one of the largest collection of pictures of canals and rivers in the world.

Roger became interested in the ancient art of Celtic knots when he saw someone drawing them at a maths conference. “Basically they are mathematical. Anyone can draw a Celtic knot using a ruler and a pencil. After that, how decorative and artistic they are is up the individual and their imagination. They can be very simple or very ornate. Many of the beautiful ancient illuminated manuscripts were decorated with Celtic knot patterns but the basic principle is quite easy to learn.”

This is a fun and active session. We start with a few warm up activitis involving the whole group followed by some smaller group games. We finish with the whole group being involved in a linked activity. The games are designed to challenge and stimulate our brains by encouraging concentration, awareness of others and examining our perceptions of our world. The setting is always informal and the games vary in length. It’s an active, though not strenuous session using the body and the voice.

Victoria Curran Nicole Coburn 
Victoria (Trumpet) returns after her highly acclaimed April recital and is joined by Aled Jones (Viola) and teenage singer Nicole. They will perform music from the 18th century, the songs arranged by the 19th century collector J B Weckerlin. The concert concludes with Spanish music from the 20th century by Manuel de Falla and Enrique Granados.  The combination of seductive melodies and driving rhythms capture all that is the embodiment of Spain.  The pianist is Clive Matthews.

SCOUT HUT.  Wax Batik. 2 to 5pm   (SU)

Batik is an ancient wax resistant fabric art. First you create a design using hot wax and then the fabric is dyed. The unique batik effect is created as the wax cracks and melts during dyeing. Cotton, silk and other natural fabrics can be used. Come along and make something beautiful. Materials provided.

Vibrant and exciting drumming sessions today with Geo, for people of all ages. SCOUT HUT. Festival Song Writing workshop. Morning. 9:30 to 12noon   (SU)
Matt Stevenson  
Musician  lyricist and member of Max Raptor, Matt and the rest of the Raptors, (who are playing on the Saturday night) invite you to come along and help them write a festival song.  16 places are available - each band member will work with a group of 4 likeminded budding musicians to complete their sections of the song.   The group will work together to produce a song to represent the ethos of the festival. Places will be available for: 4 Songwriters,4 Bass guitars, 4 Lead guitars, 4 Drummers/percussionists. You will need to play the instrument or have an interest in poetry or song writing.  The final song will be played on Walkfield during the evening by the band.

Variety Theatre Memories. Vic Oliver, Gert and Daisy, Two-Ton Tessie O`Shea, Al Read, Billy Cotton,Cheerful Charlie Chester, Ronnie Ronalde are just a few of the names from Graham`s collection of variety theatre programmes of  the late 1940s and early 50s. If you remember the stars of this era, why not join Graham as he turns back the clock and lets you hear again the artists who topped the bill at Hippodromes around the country. Join "The Cavalier of Song" in a rousing sing-song and add your own recollections of when entertainment was twice nightly.
